Moped Madness

By Sahara Surf Team Tuesday, 3rd February, 2009

Great morning spent zooming around the countryside around Djenne on mopeds. Hot, dusty and a whole lot of fun!

And of course, rather appropriately, one of the bikes breaks down and we have to get it rescued from the edge of town.  We pay for some repairs and afterwards the moterbike man asks if we can give him a lift back to Bamako. We do so and he proves a great font of knowledge to the areas we drive through, and the provider of some lovely Malian stories (the one of the donkey, goat and dog explains african driving perfectly!).

Also hear from Rob…..he is still in Bamako having somehow contrived not to get his flight, and has been adopted by an airport worker and is spending the day in the shanty town part of Bamako. Sounds all very bizarre, but rather in keeping with the trip somehow.

Tom is staying a bit longer than the rest of us and will continue north towards Timbuktou…..we say our goodbyes and wish him luck. And then there were three.

The drive back to Segou and the evening are hard work as first I and then Jon go down with a bit of a bug…..thankfully nothing too serious though.
